At Sawblade.com, a bandsaw blade is not done until it is welded, checked, and on its way to you. Every coil we make ends up in our high production welding facility, the last stop before your blade ships. This is where a long strip of blade stock becomes the exact blade you ordered. Let us walk you through what happens here and how we make sure the right blade reaches your door.
From Coil to Custom Length
Every blade starts as part of a coil. At the first station, the blade stock is measured and cut to the length you asked for. Whether you need a short blade for a portable band saw or a long one for a production machine, it is cut to your exact size.
Flash Butt Welding
Once the blade is cut to length, the two ends are joined with flash butt welding. This process heats the ends and presses them together to form a strong, solid joint. A good weld is key, because the weld is the one spot where a blade can fail if it is not done right.
Grinding the Weld and the Back
After welding, we grind the weld joint and the back of the blade. This makes the joint smooth and even with the rest of the blade, so it runs through your saw guides without bumps or catching.
What this means for you:
- A strong joint that holds up in the cut
- A smooth blade that tracks well on your saw
- Less wear on your guides
Checked Again and Again
Quality control does not stop at the welding station. Every blade is double and triple checked at each and every step of the process. In the welding facility, we check to make sure you get:
- The right length
- The right TPI (teeth per inch)
- The right blade model
- A quality, high performance blade
A blade that is even a little off in length will not fit your saw, and the wrong TPI or model will not cut the way you need. That is why we check every blade more than once before it leaves.
