Protective capping is applied to the blade at the factory to cover the cutting edge. Its purpose is to prevent the finished teeth from being damaged during handling and transportation.

The capping can remain on the blade during installation and be removed after the blade has been placed on the bandsaw. This helps protect the teeth from the factory until they are ready to make their first cut.
